What's JLPT?

It stands for Japanese Language Proficiency Test and there are 4 levels - level 1 is the highest level and level 4 is the basic (entry) level.

My new job is to serve Japanese credit card members to do research for tourist information in European countries.

Researcher(RX) - responsible to translate card members' requests from Japanese to English and translate the researched info from English to Japanese and advised the card members.

Research Assistant (RA) - responsible to do all kinds of research  : hotels,  restaurants, museums info and reservation, item search, car rental, optional tour info...etc.  Detailed the info and pass back to the researcher for translation.

Since I completed my Japanese language course in 1991,  my written Japanese has devoluted as I haven't been used it for such a long timeemoticon.  However, as a chatterbox, my conversational Japanese is still quite ok. But katakana is my weak point, so the company decided to hire me as research assistant instead of researcher.

It's less stressful to be a RA than a RX because any information we relate back to the card members can cause a big fuss and big mess if there's a mistake in the pricing which is the most sensitive issue in this job.  So I am quite happy to be a RA than RX.

Two weeks after I worked for this company, there was an Indonesian lady who has studied in a University in Japan and has been working for Japanese companies for the past few years.  Her written Japanese is so strong that she was hired as a RX.

There's another Philippina who has a relative in Japan hence she had the chance to live in Japan for more than 5 years.  But she has the same problem as me, not good at written Japanese, therefore she's an RX like me.

Since their Japanese languages are stronger than mine, I would rather speak English with them than Japanese.
