Since a blogger asked me about the conditions of living and working in Singapore, I may as well post the information here for everyone's reference emoticon

Meals :
As I mentioned before, average $ for a meal is about SG$5 (already expensive!!emoticon). Normally I eat about $2-3 only.. hahaha

Drinks :
Milk tea / coffee is about $1/glass at hawker centre or food court. But if you would like to enjoy café, it would be about $3-$4 / cup at places like Pacific Coffee, Starbucks, Coffee Bean, Coffee Club or TCC etc.

Alcohol is not cheap in Singapore as the government does not encourage people to drink.  So they imposed heavy tax on drinks.  The price for alcohol is close to what you have in HKG. emoticon

Transportation :
Bus, MTR and taxi are relatively cheap compare to HK. So the daily expenses is much lower than what you are spending in HKG.

Of course different people have different lifestyle.emoticon

Rental condition :
If you want a whole condominium (deluxe private housing with facilities like gym or pool etc), it would be above SGD1000 for sure, if you want the place more poshy (like Holland Village), it would be over $2K. But if you would like a whole HDB (public housing), the average is about $800-$1000.

You may refer to the below link for the rental conditions in SGD :
1) http://www.easyhome.com.sg/room_rental_listing.htm
2)
http://classifieds.singnet.com.sg/details.cfm?id=123
3)
http://sg.classifieds.yahoo.com/display/rentals?ct_hft=browse&cr=sg&srid=376617534&action=browse&nodeid=750044142&intl=sg

and u may go to http://www.streetdirectory.com/ to view the location of the place you want to rent / view.

Taxation :
As for income tax, if you come with your employment pass, you should refer to the non-resident link :
Non-resident rate :-
http://www.iras.gov.sg/ESVPortal/iit/iit-se-a1.1.16+tax+rates+for+non-resident+individuals.asp

If you want to apply and become a permanent resident after staying for awhile in SG, you would be paying the tax rate according to the below link :
Resident rate :-
http://www.iras.gov.sg/ESVPortal/iit/iit-se-a1.1.15+tax+rates+for+resident+individuals.asp

FYI, your dependants are in HKG, so you won't be able to claim for tax deduction unless they have been living in SG for over 6 months as long as they are unemployed, regardless of their age. (this part is yet to be confirmed, please check with the Taxation office for details).

Anyway, SG is a clean, green and safe place to live in.

You would enjoy it if you are not a party animal ~ hehehe emoticon

[13] Things to do at weekend

Hi, Poo,

I just come across your blog and find that you are a very interested person, with a lot of experience in Singapore.

For me, I will go to work and live in Singapore coming July, but afraid of very boring at Singapore. Do you have any recommendation on how to spend the weekend ?

SG is actually quite safe.. but of course there's exception... HDB is a flat.. u want a whole flat /just a room?

[17] Whole flat or just a room

Thanks, Poo!

Depends on the budget, i would love to live in flat instead of sharing with others.

How can i get for S$400 - S$550?

And you? u are living in a common room in HDB? What's HDB stand for?
